MindMaze Therapeutics reported gains in independence and cognition among 172 adults, primarily after stroke, who trained at home with its gamified neurorehabilitation software at Vibra Healthcare outpatient sites. In a small crossover trial published in WORK, 25 of 30 adults preferred a human-led occupational therapy initial assessment over a remote AI-powered one.
THE DETAILS
- Technology Oct 14, 2026MindMaze Therapeutics said 172 adults with neurological conditions, primarily stroke, completed an eight-week home-training program with its MindMotion GO software with periodic therapist supervision at four Vibra Healthcare outpatient sites. In company-reported pre-post results from the retrospective quality improvement program, the Barthel Index rose 10.4 points and the SLUMS cognition score rose 3.4 points; 92.7% completed home setup and 80.2% reached the predefined minimum training exposure. The company said a tablet-based version, MindMotion Lite, is expected by year-end 2026.Source: MindMaze Therapeutics
- AI Oct 13, 2026In a crossover randomized trial by University of British Columbia researchers published online Oct. 13 in WORK, 30 adults completed both a remote, self-administered, AI-powered occupational therapy initial assessment and a human-administered one in random order, and 83% (25 of 30) preferred the human format. The AI version scored 81.1 on a modified System Usability Scale; median perceived compassion was 9.90 for the human format versus 7.53 (P < .001). Agreement with the proposed goals did not differ (all P ≥ .25), and the authors concluded that conversational AI appears better placed to supplement therapist-led assessment than to replace it.Sources: WORK, The OT Index
