The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) cleared SimBioSys's TumorSight Risk, AI software that combines breast MRI, pathology and clinical data to score breast cancer recurrence risk, the company said Oct. 15.
In other developments, 19.8% of 958 clinicians used an ambient AI scribe in a JCO Oncology Practice study, an AI nutrition platform met equivalence with dietitians, and digital outreach reached 11% of patients invited to check lung screening eligibility.
THE DETAILS
- AI Oct 15, 2026SimBioSys said Oct. 15 that the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) granted 510(k) clearance to TumorSight Risk for adult women with HR-positive, HER2-negative stage I to IIIA breast cancer. The software combines breast MRI, pathology and clinical data and generates a score from 0 to 100 with a high-, intermediate- or low-risk category. In a multi-institutional validation study of 2,129 patients presented at the 2026 American Society of Clinical Oncology Annual Meeting, high-risk patients had a 3.3-fold greater risk of recurrence than low-risk patients, the company said. Mayo Clinic has a financial interest in SimBioSys.Sources: SimBioSys, AuntMinnie
- AI Oct 17, 2026In a study published Oct. 17 in JCO Oncology Practice, 190 (19.8%) of 958 clinicians at a high-volume cancer center used an ambient AI scribe implemented from June to September 2025. Among adopters, pajama time went from 86.9 to 81.4 minutes a week, and the likelihood of closing notes on visit days went from 56% to 54%. Among 45 clinicians surveyed before and after rollout, high or excessive note-writing time fell from 78% to 60% (P = .043), and 73% of 77 postrollout respondents said they would recommend the tool. The authors said adoption was low.Sources: JCO Oncology Practice, Crossref
- AI Oct 15, 2026AI nutrition platform meets equivalence with dietitians on nutrition advice for patients with cancerA study published Oct. 15 in JCO Clinical Cancer Informatics compared an AI nutrition platform with four dietitians on 20 nutrition queries, with responses scored by three blinded expert reviewers. The platform met equivalence criteria on the primary outcome, total quality score (mean difference 0.9 points; 90% CI -0.27 to 2.15), and scored higher on clarity (4.2 versus 3.9; P = .001), relevance (4.1 versus 3.9; P = .04) and usefulness (3.8 versus 3.5; P = .02). Its responses were easier to read and faster (8.5 versus 18.5 minutes per two queries). Several authors listed affiliations with Savor Health LLC.Sources: JCO Clinical Cancer Informatics, Crossref
- Research Oct 13, 2026In a secondary analysis of a pragmatic randomized trial published Oct. 13 in the Journal of General Internal Medicine, 3,049 (11%) of 26,909 individuals invited through digital outreach completed lung cancer screening eligibility questions within 16 weeks. Portal messages were read by 65.5% of recipients, and 17.1% visited the mPATH-Lung landing page. Reach was higher among White participants (12.8%) than Black (8.6%) and Hispanic (8.0%) participants, and text invitations to people not reachable by portal added 604 participants.Sources: Journal of General Internal Medicine, PubMed
