Stockholm adopts AI as second mammography reader; Senate panel advances radiologist for surgeon general; study finds cardiac CT pay falling
Sweden's Stockholm Region will use Lunit's artificial intelligence software as an independent second reader for breast screening at three hospitals, Lunit announced Sept. 28. Radiology Business reported that the plan replaces radiologist second reads.
The Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee voted 12-11 to advance breast imaging specialist Dr. Nicole Saphier's nomination as surgeon general. A study found inflation-adjusted Medicare payment for coronary CT angiography fell 68.3% from 2010 to 2026, and Jardine Matheson completed its purchase of Australia's I-MED Radiology Network.
- Business Sept 28, 2026Lunit said Sept. 28 that its Lunit INSIGHT MMG software will be implemented as an independent second reader across Sweden's Stockholm Region at Capio Saint Göran Hospital, Karolinska University Hospital and Södersjukhuset, supporting 200,000 to 250,000 examinations annually once fully implemented. Radiology Business reported that the plan replaces radiologist second reads; Sweden, unlike the U.S., has two radiologists independently review mammograms. Lunit cited one-year results from ScreenTrustCAD, a prospective study of more than 55,000 women at Saint Göran, showing a 15% increase in cancer detection.Sources: Lunit (PR Newswire), Radiology Business
